REIKI
Reiki: a Japanese word meaning universal life energy.
The word Reiki describes both energy and a non-invasive healing technique used to maintain health by channeling this energy. The practice of Reiki originated, according to tradition, around 3,000 B.C. in what we now call Tibet. Until the mid–1800s, Reiki was part of mankind’s hidden history, surviving primarily by oral teaching in various monastic orders. The essentials of the system, however, were encoded in Tibetan Sutras (though the writers of these texts enjoy hiding their knowledge in various cryptographic ways). Sometime between 1870 and 1880, a Japanese theologian, Dr Mikao Usui, began searching through ancient texts to find formulas to activate and harness a universal life force. With the encouragement of Buddhist monks, Dr. Usui went into seclusion for 21 days, hoping to have an experience that would unite his knowledge with the essence of the energy he had sought for so long. On the 21st day, he achieved this in a mystical fusion of enlightenment and attunement.
Reiki uses five primary working premises or assumptions:
  • There is an energy of many unique properties, some of which are applicable to both medical and psychological conditions.
  • This energy has a source.
  • This source can be contacted and tapped.
  • A person can be easily taught to utilize this energy.
  • The effects of applying this energy are palpable, although subjective.
Reiki is not a religion or affiliated with any religion. This life force energy is the source of life itself and far older in concept and fact than any religious philosophy. Reiki can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions and is particularly good for reducing pain and stress, increasing vitality and bolstering the client’s outlook.

Reiki is totally positive and can never cause harm to any living thing, whatever their condition or status. It is valid for use on anyone, no matter how young, old or frail. Elders, infants and children respond well to Reiki healing, as do pets and plants.
People suffering with all kinds of pain, (arthritis, migraine headaches) have found Reiki treatments to be very beneficial.

An average Reiki treatment lasts one hour. The practitioner’s hands are placed very gently on the client. There are twelve positions, and five minutes is spent on each. For special needs, the positions and time may be varied considerably. The client remains fully clothed at all times, although the removal of glasses, shoes, and any item of clothing which might be tight such as a belt or watch is encouraged. There is no pressure on the body, nor is there any manipulation or massage. The treatment is done on a standard massage table (whenever possible), and a minimum of talking and conversation is desirable. Soft, soothing music is usually played during treatment.

Note:

Reiki and Reflexology will not be performed on the same person on the same day.
